Koronakriisin aikana kaikista kovimmilla ovat olleet terveydenhuoltoalan henkilöstö, jotka ovat taistelleet etulinjassa ympäri maailmaa tautia vastaan. Monissa maissa he ovat saaneet kunnianosoituksia muun muassa aplodein.
Yhdysvalloissa New Yorkissa hoitohenkilökunta sai hieman erikoisemman kunnianosoituksen. New Yorkin 102- kerroksisen Empire State Building- pilvenpiirätjän yläosa valaistiin punaisella valolla kunnianosoituksena terveydenhoitoalan henkilökunnalle.
Valoilmiön nimi on ”Heartbeat of America” eli suomeksi Amerikan sydämenlyöntejä. Yläosa on valaistu punaiseksi, jossa vilahtelee välillä vaaleaa väriä kuvaillakseen sydämenlyöntejä. Normaalisti Empire State Building on valaistu valkoisella valolla, mutta 31. maaliskuuta lähtien se on ollut uusissa väreissä.
– Emme koskaan lopeta valaisemasta sinua. Tästä illasta lähtien korvaamme tavaramerkkimme valkoisen valon Amerikan sydämenlyönneillä yhdessä mastossa olevien valkoisten ja punaisten sireenien. Tämä on COVID-19 taistelun sankarillisille pelastustyöntekijöille, jotka taistelevat etulinjassa, Empire State Building twiittasi.
Etelä-Philadelphiassa puolestaan asukkaat ovat soittaneet kelloja ja taputtaneet terveydenhoitohenkilökunnalle ja ruokapalvelun työntekijöille.
Yhdysvallat ovat saaneet koronaviruksessa kaikista kovimman iskun. Sairastuneita on yli 311 637 ja tautiin kuolleitakin on jo 8 454. Koronaviruksesta parantuneita on 14 828. Tilastot on päivitetty 5. huhtikuuta 2020 Suomen aikaan kello 13:51.
