Lauantaina 13.6. käynnistyy jalkapallon naisten pääsarja, Kansallinen Liiga. Nimenmuutoksen tarkoitus on tehdä jalkapallosta samanarvoista.
Sarjassa pelaa kymmenen joukkuetta, joista peräti viisi on pääkaupunkiseudulta.
– Kansallisen Liigan pitäisi onnistua levittäytymään laajemmin ympäri Suomea, Palloliiton puheenjohtaja Ari Lahti toteaa.
Koronaviruksesta johtuen kausi alkaa vasta nyt, ja kaksinkertainen sarja päättyy marraskuun alussa 7.-8.11.. Liigan jatkolohkot jää täten pelaamatta.
– Jos se koronan mahdollinen toinen aalto päättää kauden, niin mitalit jaetaan, jos peleistä on pelattu 85 %, Palloliiton kehityspäällikkö Heidi Pihlaja paljastaa.
Palloliitolla on visio 2023, ja tuolla halutaan sitä, että Kansallinen Liiga on vuonna 2023 modernia 2020-luvun huippu-urheilua.
– Panostamme nais- ja tyttöjalkapalloon, sillä haluamme enemmän tyttöjä mukaan, Lahti valaisee.
